Sound
A founder member of HULA, an experimental multimedia band producing 8 LPs & 10 singles released worldwide alongside several radio sessions (incl 4 x John Peel sessions) and live broadcasts, TV features (The Tube, The Chart Show, Snub TV) and performances at several prestigious European festivals.
Sound Designer for film and tv includes the feature films Exhibit "A" dir Dom Rotheroe, awarded Best Independent Feature at Raindance festival, Rotterdam 2007 and Jelly Dolly, directed by Susannah Gent (awarded best feature Berlin Britspotting festival) ; sound design contributions also include Love Over Goldfish, Dish, You Are My Favourite Chair (best film Raindance and California ION festivals) ;, Bedhead, The Friend's Tale, for C4 TV and Film On Four, "Knitting A Love Song" by bafta nominated director, Annie Watson and The Love Doctor for the BBC.
Audio-visual installations, include "Hylo", a retrospective National Gallery tour of collaborations with video artist Andy Eccleston; "Requiem", featuring a French horn being dissolved in a clear tank of nitric acid; "Acousma", a quasi-paranormal opera generated from MRI brain scans and "Spindrift", which uses boroscope technology to journey through the inside of orchestral instruments. Ron's sonic research is concerned with sound in relation to space for cinema, screen and environment exploring real and imagined landscapes and the interrelaionship between physical and psychological terrain. Live performance include surround sound presentations of Requiem and Spindrift at Consortium gallery and The Lloyd Hotel, Amsterdam December 2007.
Academic
Ron Wright is based in Sheffield. He works at Sheffield Hallam University as a senior lecturer in sound and since his involvement as part-time lecturer he has built the sound area to include several modules for sound creative specialisms in film and media production, animation, digitalmedia, visual effects gaming and sound art across all undergraduate levels. He recently designed the MA Sound Design course due to start in October 2009.
